Week 9(22/09/205 to 26/09/2025) – Celebrations, Learning, and Memorable Moments

“Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions.” – Unknown.

Week 9 of my teaching practice was a vibrant mix of classroom learning, innovative teaching strategies, school events, and hands-on experiences. From the exciting Sasthramela and interactive diagnostic tests to delivering the last lesson plans in Physics and Chemistry, every day brought new challenges and learning opportunities. This week also included school celebrations like Swachhata Hi Seva, Yuvajanolsavam competitions, and the highly anticipated Sports Day, which tested our coordination, teamwork, and organizational skills. Amidst lessons, experiments, games, and events, I felt a deep sense of connection with my students and colleagues, and each day reinforced my love for teaching and creative engagement.

Day 40 - 22/09/2025 - Monday
Today felt like a true celebration of science and learning. It was the much-awaited Sasthramela day at school, so the air buzzed with excitement right from the morning assembly. Although the fair was scheduled to begin after first period, I came fully prepared with lesson plans, slides, and activities, ready for my two regular classes—8B Chemistry and 9A Physics—along with extra plans in case of substitutions. Since the schedule shifted, my 8B diagnostic test moved to the very first hour. Using ICT, I arranged the room like an exam hall and quietly watched the students engage seriously with the questions; their focus and curiosity made me proud. Once the test was complete, I joined the preparations for the Sasthramela, listening to students’ mock presentations, giving feedback, and admiring their creativity. Distributing the midday meal and helping set up desks for the exhibition added to the sense of teamwork and community. The fair itself was vibrant—students from every class explored experiments and models with enthusiasm, and I felt inspired by their energy.
When the festivities wound down, I headed to 9A for my seventh-period Physics class on Newton’s Third Law of Motion. From balloon experiments to a spring balance simulation and real-life examples, the students were eager participants, their curiosity carrying the momentum of the day. Ending the class with an engaging discussion, I walked out feeling deeply satisfied—a day filled with science, sharing, and the joy of teaching.

Day 41 - 23/09/2025 - Tuesday

Today brought a mix of excitement and responsibility. The morning assembly set a thoughtful tone as the school commemorated Software Freedom Day with a speech, quiz, and pledge, reminding everyone of the power of open knowledge. Soon after, I learned that my optional B.Ed teacher, Saija Miss, would be observing my class, so I quickly rescheduled my 8B Chemistry period to the 4th hour. I delivered the lesson on Non-metals and Oxides exactly as planned—using real materials like charcoal, a wood piece, and plastic to help students contrast metals and non-metals. With guided questions and clear demonstrations, we explored the properties of non-metals and their oxides. The highlight was a hands-on test using a carbonated drink and litmus paper to show the acidic nature of non-metal oxides. My slides and videos blended smoothly with the discussion, and I felt proud of the way the class stayed engaged. Saija Miss appreciated my preparation and classroom management, suggesting only that I use coloured chalk for better board work—a helpful reminder I will act on next time. In my substitution periods with 8B, I shifted to metacognitive learning strategies. Students worked in groups to revisit tricky concepts from Metals and Non-metals, taught each other in peer-to-peer style, and reflected on their own thinking. We played a “green and red card” game to encourage careful reasoning, and they even repeated experiments from memory—proving how well they’d internalised the steps. Later, an unexpected swap gave me the chance to take a Health Education class in 9B, where I presented my well-prepared Vitamin D lesson with ease. By the end of the day I felt both accomplished and inspired: the successful observation, the active student participation, and the positive feedback affirmed my growth as a teacher. It was a day of careful planning, joyful learning, and genuine professional satisfaction.

Day 42 - 24/09/2025 - Wednesday
Today felt like a celebration of everything I’ve learned as a teacher-in-training. The morning began with a special assembly led by the Kollam Municipal Corporation as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025. Students pledged to avoid plastics and practise effective waste management, and the officials’ talk on protecting the environment set a thoughtful, purposeful mood for the day. In the first hour, I delivered my final scheduled lesson of this phase: Applications of Newton’s Third Law for 9B Physics. Using slides, videos, and plenty of real-life examples, I guided the class through each application and wrapped up by solving the textbook exercises. It felt wonderful to end my formal lesson sequence with such a smooth, well-received session. Later, during the fifth hour, I conducted the post-test for 8B Chemistry on Metals and Non-metals, projecting the question paper through ICT so students could focus entirely on writing. Their quiet concentration reflected the steady progress we’d made together. The afternoon overflowed with school events: I helped conduct the Vijnanolsavam quiz and then supervised the opening of the Yuvajanolsavam competitions—kadharachana, kavitharachana, and the vibrant Chithrarachana art contests filled the corridors with creativity. My favourite moment came in the eighth period, when I finally got to implement my innovative lesson plan—a custom-designed Snake and Ladder game based on chemical formulas. With colourful boards and a handmade dice, I divided 8B into four teams. The students’ energy was contagious as they solved chemical formula tasks to climb the board, helping one another and reinforcing tricky concepts without even realising they were revising. Watching them learn joyfully, sharing knowledge and laughing together, was the perfect culmination of my effort and preparation. I ended the day with a deep sense of fulfillment and happiness. From the serious environmental pledges to the lively group game, every activity reminded me why I love teaching: learning can be both meaningful and fun, when we create the right space for it.

Day 43 - 25/09/2025 - Thursday

Day 43 was filled with a mix of academic closure and heartfelt farewells. My timetable included 1st hour 9B Physics and 5th hour 9A Physics, and I came fully prepared with the “Let Us Assess” questions for 9B and the last lesson plan for 9A. In the 1st period, I guided the 9B students through a set of questions from Let Us Assess, revising key concepts from the chapter and giving a satisfying windup to the topic. A 2nd-hour substitution with 8B allowed me to address questions from their diagnostic test and wrap up the chapter, ensuring students left with clarity. After classes, we submitted our final lesson plans and co-trainee records to our concern teacher Uma Miss and then got our teaching practice records signed and sealed by the Headmistress, marking the approaching end of this phase. In a cheerful gesture, we bought ladoos for the teachers and our 8th and 9th students as a parting gift, spreading joy and gratitude. The afternoon was a lively mix of competitions for the ongoing Yuvajanolsavam—writing and drawing contests kept the students engaged—while I conducted my final Physics class for 9A on the applications of Newton’s Third Law, using slides, activities, and real-life examples to make the concepts interesting and memorable. In the last period, I accompanied a co-trainee to help photograph her innovative lesson plan session. The day ended smoothly with a school announcement about Sports Day tomorrow at Ashramam Maidan, leaving me with a sense of completion, accomplishment, and a little nostalgia as this teaching practice journey drew closer to its conclusion.

Day 44 -26/09/2025 - Friday
Day 44 was filled with energy, teamwork, and a hint of unpredictability as it was the school’s Sports Day. The morning started with a bit of a challenge—rain caused a temporary halt, so some normal classes continued while I took the opportunity to correct notebooks. Once the skies cleared, the sports events began in our limited school space. From 100m races to shot put, every event was conducted with careful planning by the trainees. I was in charge of announcements, striving to keep the energy high and the program entertaining for everyone. After lunch, we all—trainees, teachers, students, and PTA members—moved to Ashramam Maidan to accommodate the bigger events like 200m races, 4×400m relay, and long jump. Despite the hectic schedule and the long hours, the day passed joyfully and seamlessly. Time seemed to fly as we coordinated events, cheered students, and shared the excitement of the competitions. By 5:00 pm, the program was successfully wrapped up, leaving everyone tired but happy and fulfilled, celebrating sports, teamwork, and school spirit.
