Week 6 of my teaching practice - AN EXAMINATION WEEK (18/08/2025 TO 22/08/2025)
“Examinations not only test knowledge, but also patience, responsibility, and teamwork.”
The sixth week of my teaching practice, from 18th August to 22nd August 2025, marked a change of pace as the Onam examinations began at school. The vibrant classroom atmosphere was replaced by a quieter, more focused environment. Instead of regular teaching, our responsibilities shifted to assisting with examination duties, distributing question papers, and ensuring smooth conduct of exams. This week gave me a new perspective on the administrative and organizational side of school life, beyond teaching and learning.
Day 25 - 18/08/2025 - Monday
The first day of Onam examinations began with much anticipation. I was assigned examination duty in Room 8A. The day started early as we helped in preparing the room, ensuring seating arrangements, and distributing question papers and answer sheets. The atmosphere was calm but slightly tense as students appeared serious and focused. I carefully observed how the invigilation process required attentiveness and discipline
Day 26 - 19/08/2025 - Tuesday
On this day, I was assigned to Room 10A for examination duty. The students of this section appeared more mature and self-reliant, requiring less supervision. It was interesting to note their time management and exam strategies. After the session, I assisted the teachers in collecting and arranging the answer sheets subject-wise. The experience strengthened my sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
Day 27 - 20/08/2025 - Wednesday
There were no direct invigilation duties for me on this day, but I actively helped with question paper distribution and organizing bundles for the upcoming exams. It gave me an opportunity to observe the systematic procedures followed by the school staff and how coordination among teachers ensured the smooth flow of examination work. This behind-the-scenes experience gave me insight into the school’s internal management.
Day 28 - 21/08/2025 - Thursday
On Thursday, I had invigilation duty at Room 9A. The students seemed well-prepared and maintained a disciplined atmosphere. I supervised the exam and assisted in collecting answer sheets. The experience reinforced the importance of fairness, vigilance, and calmness during examination duties. Later, I joined in helping with the safe submission of the exam materials to the staffroom.
Day 29 - 22/08/2025 - Friday
The final working day before the Onam vacation arrived. There were no exam duties for me on this day, but I helped in distributing question papers to different rooms and assisted teachers in organizing records. The school environment was tensed as it is exam but all are waiting for the light and festive onam celebrations on the bext week along with the remaining exams of next week. Also everyone eagerly awaited the holidays. We also had a short interaction with our guide teachers, expressing our gratitude for their support so far.
This week, though different from regular teaching, was equally enriching. Performing examination duties gave me a sense of responsibility and discipline that every teacher must uphold. I learned the importance of punctuality, precision, and ethical conduct during exams. The teamwork among teachers inspired me and showed how essential cooperation is in maintaining the integrity of the examination process. I realized that a teacher’s role extends beyond classroom instruction—it involves managing, organizing, and ensuring a fair and smooth academic process.
As the week ended, so did the first phase of our teaching practice before the Onam vacation. We are now preparing to return to our college after Friday and will resume our internship at the school after the Onam holidays, on the reopening day. This short pause offers time for reflection and renewal, before stepping into the next phase of our teaching journey.
