"Reflections on Social Issues: Documentary Screening and Discussion"

"Documentaries are a window into the world, revealing stories that need to be told."

As part of the NSS program, I attended a thought-provoking documentary screening and discussion organized by the NSS Unit of Government Model Boys HSS Thevally. Representing KUCTE Thevally's NSS unit, I joined along with my fellow volunteers and faculty for an enlightening event.

The event featured two poignant documentaries directed by Dr K B Selva mony Sir: "Memories of Trans" and "The Great Silence." "Memories of Trans" shed light on the struggles and triumphs of the transgender community, sparking crucial conversations about inclusivity and acceptance. "The Great Silence" poignantly captured the 2018 Kerala floods through the eyes of a young cancer patient who contributed to the relief efforts, inspiring us with her resilience and generosity.

Following the screenings, Selvamony Sir engaged in a Q&A session, offering insights into his creative process and the making of these impactful documentaries. He shared valuable advice on documentary filmmaking and storytelling, providing a deeper understanding of the craft.

This program reminded me of the significance of social awareness and empathy. Documentaries like these bridge gaps between communities, amplify marginalized voices, and inspire positive change. The experience reinforced the importance of social responsibility and the power of storytelling.

I extend gratitude to Selvamony Sir for sharing his remarkable work, Government Model Boys HSS Thevally's NSS Unit for organizing this event, and KUCTE Thevally's NSS Unit for the opportunity to participate.

This documentary screening was a meaningful experience, inspiring me to engage more deeply with social issues and promote empathy and understanding.
