"Unlocking Effective Teaching: My Microteaching Experience"
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin
As a part of my teacher training program, I recently completed my microteaching class at my college. Microteaching is a technique used to train teachers in specific teaching skills, where they teach a small group of students for a short duration, usually 10-15 minutes. This method allows teachers to practice and refine their teaching skills in a controlled environment.
I took two separate microteaching classes, each focusing on a different teaching skill. The first class concentrated on the Skill of Probing Questions, where I taught the topic "States of Matter". I prepared a set of open-ended questions that encouraged students to think critically about the characteristics and properties of solids, liquids, and gases. During the session, I posed these questions to the students, facilitating a discussion that promoted deeper understanding and insight.
The second class focused on the Skill of Demonstration, where I taught the topic "Surface Tension". I designed a simple yet effective demonstration to illustrate the concept of surface tension. The students were fascinated by the demonstration, and it helped to clarify their understanding of this complex phenomenon.
The microteaching experience was enlightening, and I realized the importance of using these skills to promote student engagement, understanding, and retention. I learned that probing questions should be used to encourage critical thinking and discussion, while demonstration should be used to clarify complex concepts.
Overall, the microteaching experience was invaluable, and I gained valuable insights into the effective use of probing questions and demonstration in teaching. I look forward to applying these skills in my future teaching endeavors.
