A DAY OF COLOURS AND CULTURE: OUR COLLEGE ONAM CELEBRATION 2025 - ആരവം 2K25
“Onam is not just a festival; it is the spirit of togetherness and the fragrance of our culture.”
On 29 August 2025, our campus bloomed with the festive spirit of Onam. From early morning itself, the corridors of Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Thiruvalla, were filled with flowers, music and the warmth of tradition. It truly felt as if the entire state of Kerala had come alive inside our college.
The celebration began with a serene prayer by Aiswarya, followed by a graceful welcome dance. As part of the Physical Science department, I had the honour of delivering the Welcome Speech, which made me feel proud to represent my team. Our beloved principal, Dr. Lethadevi Amma J, officially inaugurated the event, setting the perfect tone for a day filled with joy.
This year, our Physical Science department took the lead in coordinating the entire programme, bringing together performances from every corner of Kerala’s cultural heritage. The highlights included: Vanjipattu, the traditional boatmen’s song, echoing the rhythm of Kerala’s backwaters.
Kaikkottikali, where elegant claps and steps blended beautifully with the music.Thiruvathira, the graceful group dance celebrating womanhood and devotion.The vibrant Malayali Manka competition, showcasing traditional Kerala attire and charm.
In addition, there were soulful group songs, energetic dances, and engaging games, all capturing the true essence of Onam.Fun, Games, and a Sweet Surprise
The afternoon was just as exciting, with Onam games and Vadamvali (tug-of-war) filling the ground with laughter and cheers. I was thrilled to win a prize in the Onam games, a memory I’ll treasure from this special day.
The celebration continued from morning till evening, ending with the delightful Onam Sadhya, a traditional feast that brought everyone together. As we said our goodbyes, the Onam vacation officially began, leaving us with hearts full of happiness and cultural pride.
This Onam was more than a celebration; it was a reminder of our roots, unity, and the joy of working together as a team. Being part of the Physical Science department and helping coordinate such a beautiful event will remain one of the most cherished memories of my college life.
