WEEK 3- REFLECTIONS FROM THE CLASSROOM: WEEK 3 OF MY TEACHING PRACTICE ( 28/07/25 to 01/08/25)

"Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge, but about inspiring a love for learning that lasts a lifetime."

As I reflect on my third week of teaching practice at Government Model Girls High School Kollam, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and growth. From Day 10 to Day 14, I had the opportunity to engage with my students, experiment with different teaching methods, and learn from my experiences.

Day 10: - July 28, 2025 - Monday
Today was a challenging yet rewarding day. I had planned an ICT-facilitated class on the topic of malleability and ductility of metals for my 8B chemistry class during the 2nd hour substitution period. However, the projector malfunctioned, which could have disrupted the entire lesson. Thankfully, I was well-prepared with alternative visual aids and real-life examples, such as steel floral wires, filament bulbs, and aluminum foil, which helped me to convey the concept effectively. My students were actively engaged, and we were able to complete the lesson plan smoothly. The feedback from my optional teacher, Saija Miss, was encouraging, and she appreciated my ability to think on my feet. Her appreciations and comments made my day, it instills confidence and strength in me and also created an urge to become better in coming days also.
In the 6th period, I took the 8B chemistry class, where I taught the chemical formula of multiple compounds using atom model sets. The students were highly participative and interactive, and they easily grasped the idea. In the 7th period, I had a 9A physics class, where I taught the topic of velocity. Despite the time constraint, I managed to complete the lesson plan and ensure active participation from the students.

Day 11: July 29,2025- Tuesday
Today was a busy day, starting with conducting the morning assembly, which was a great experience. As a B.Ed trainee, it was an opportunity for me to take on a leadership role and coordinate with my fellow trainees. We received lots of compliments from teachers and students for perfectly coordinating the assembly. After the assembly, I checked the availability of some chemicals needed for future lesson plans in the lab.
In the 2nd hour, I took a substitution class for 9B physics, where I taught the lesson plan on retardation, uniform, and non-uniform acceleration. I had prepared slides and used comparative questions to convey the concept effectively. The students were actively participating, and they understood the concept easily. However, I realized that some students need extra support with basic math operations, particularly negative number operations. I helped them and asked them to revise the basics at home.
In the 6th hour, I took the 8B chemistry class, where I taught the lesson plan on sonority and metallic lustre properties of metals. I used different real objects and slides to convey the concept clearly. The students captured the concept easily, and we completed the lesson plan smoothly. In the 7th hour, I had PT duty in 9A, where I supervised the students during exercises and playtime.

Day 12:July 30,2025- Wednesday
Today, I had only one period as per my timetable, but I was prepared for any substitutions. I took the ITM lesson plan on road signs and road markings for my 9B physics class. I followed the lesson plan and used a story to gain their attention. The students asked many questions, and we navigated through the different types of road signs and their importance. The lesson plan was a success, and I was able to convey the concept effectively.
In the rest of the periods, I checked notebooks and provided extra support to weak students. I realized that some students struggle with understanding questions, even if they know the concept. I plan to implement strategies to address this issue and provide individual attention to students who need it.

Day 13- July 31,2025  - Thursday
Today, I taught graphical representation and uniform velocity to my physics classes. In the 1st period, I introduced graphical representation to 9B physics students, using ICT facilities to project graphs and explain the concept effectively. The students were engaged and participated actively in the class. In the 6th hour, I took the 9A physics class, where I taught uniform and non-uniform velocity using a CAM lesson plan. The students easily grasped the concept, and we completed the lesson plan smoothly.

During the day, I also had the opportunity to conduct a Sastra quiz, which was a great experience. Two students from 10A, Alnasiya N and Nivedhya Krishna K, were the winners and got selected to participate in the sub-jilla level.

Day 14- August 1,2025- Friday
Today was a dynamic and productive day in my teaching practice. Although I had only one scheduled period with class 8B for PT duty, I was prepared for potential substitutions and made the most of the opportunities that arose. I utilized my free periods to organize the lab for upcoming classes and set up experiments for my chemistry lesson with 8B later in the day. When I got substitution classes for 9A, I effectively covered topics on retardation, uniform and non-uniform acceleration, and road signs and markings. Despite initial challenges, the engaging nature of the road signs lesson helped regain the students' interest and concentration. I also had a successful PT duty session with 8B, and my lesson on position-time graphs with 9B went smoothly, thanks to their prior preparation. The day concluded with a successful chemistry experiment session with both 8A and 8B classes, showcasing the importance of preparation and flexibility in teaching.

This week has been a valuable learning experience for me. I have realized the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations and providing individual attention to students. I am committed to continuing my efforts to engage my students and help them achieve their full potential.
