SCHOOL BASED ACTIVITY - Empowerment of Girls as Empowerment of Society
“When girls are empowered, society flourishes.”
As part of our B.Ed curriculum at Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Thevally, we ten teacher trainees had the opportunity to conduct a school-based activity at Govt. Model Girls High School, Thevally. The theme of the programme was “Empowerment of Girls as Empowerment of Society”, a topic that holds great relevance in today’s world. The session was conducted for the students of Class 9 (combining 9A and 9B) on 16th September 2025 at 3 pm.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by the welcome speech by Haripriya G. The Headmistress of the school, Smt. Baby Chithra, graciously inaugurated the session. After the inauguration, we teacher trainees jointly took up the responsibility of presenting the theme through speeches, slides, videos, and an activity session.
The theme presentation included:
Education and Girl Empowerment – Aswani M
Women Who Inspire – Sithara Beegam R
Right and Legal Support – Sreelekshmi A S
Economic Empowerment – presented by me (Nayana S S)
Breaking Stereotypes – Fathima Rasad
Along with these sessions, Athulya Viswanathan led an interactive activity that kept the students actively engaged. The programme concluded with a motivational message and a call for action by Sruthy M, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks by Midhula A S.
In total, 49 students participated with keen interest, making the programme lively and impactful.
I had the privilege to present on the topic of Economic Empowerment. Through my slides, I introduced the students to the concept of being financially independent and emphasized the importance of keeping oneself as a priority. The slides not only helped me structure the session but also attracted the students’ attention, keeping them engaged throughout.
Being part of this collective effort with my co-trainees was truly enriching. From inviting our HM for the inauguration to handling various parts of the programme together, we learned teamwork, planning, and execution. Watching the students listen attentively and respond with curiosity gave me immense satisfaction and strengthened my confidence as a teacher trainee.
The programme “Empowerment of Girls as Empowerment of Society” was more than just a class activity——it was a reminder of the crucial role education plays in shaping confident, independent, and empowered young women. For us teacher trainees, it was an experience of learning by doing, and for the students, it was a spark to dream bigger and strive for empowerment in every sphere of life.
