WEEK 8 (15/09/2025 to 19/09/2025)– LESSONS, MILESTONES, AND NEW HORIZONS

“Great teachers are not only good at teaching, they are forever willing to keep learning.”

Week 8 of my teaching practice was a rich blend of active classroom sessions and personal milestones. From delivering interactive lessons on Newton’s laws and the applications of impulsive force to organizing a powerful school-based program on Empowerment of Girls, each day added new depth to my journey. Midweek, I also stepped away from the school routine to prepare for and write the KTET examination, an important step toward my future as a professional teacher. This week reminded me how teaching is not confined to the classroom,—it is a continuous cycle of learning, preparing, and growing

Day 35 -15/09/2025 - MONDAY
The 35th day of my teaching practice turned out to be one of the most eventful so far. The morning opened with a vibrant Hindi Diwas assembly, where students filled the courtyard with poetry, songs, a quiz, and even a flash-mob dance—all in Hindi. I helped the Hindi trainee coordinate the programme under our school’s Hindi teacher, which gave me a wonderful behind-the-scenes experience. Soon after, I received a call from my B.Ed college mentors about their upcoming class observations, so I rearranged periods to accommodate them, handing over my 6th-hour 8B Chemistry slot and shifting my 9A Physics class to the second hour. That Physics period flowed beautifully. Through real-life examples—like pushing a table with different forces—I led the students to discover Newton’s Second Law of Motion and derive the familiar equation F = ma. They solved a sample problem confidently, and I felt proud of how smoothly the lesson unfolded. Between classes I checked notebooks, supervised a cycling competition, and later managed the badminton event, enjoying the energy of students in action. The highlight came in the afternoon with our Conscientization Programme on Lifestyle Diseases, carefully planned by all ten of us KUCTE trainees. By 3 p.m., students from 8A and 8B gathered in the hall we had set up with laptops, slides, and activities. The Headmistress inaugurated the session, and together we explored the causes, types, and prevention of lifestyle diseases, even guiding a group breathing exercise. A short video, lively discussion, and student feedback rounded it off. I delivered the vote of thanks, feeling both nervous and thrilled. As I locked the hall after the successful programme, a deep sense of satisfaction settled in. The day had been a perfect blend of teaching, coordination, and celebration—a true reminder of how dynamic and fulfilling the role of a teacher can be.

Day 36 - 16/09/2025 - TUESDAY

The 36 st day of teaching practice carried a strong sense of purpose. After the morning assembly, I spent the early hours productively—finishing my reflective journal and blog updates, checking notebooks, preparing quiz questions for the upcoming science fair, and gathering laptops, slides, and videos for the afternoon’s school-based activity on “Empowerment of Girls as Empowerment of Society.” Classes moved steadily. A surprise 5th-hour substitution in 9A Physics allowed me to teach the applications of Newton’s Second Law, guiding students through problems using the equation F = ma and linking it to the concept of force as the rate of change of momentum. In 6th period, I conducted the achievement test for 8B Chemistry on the Metals and Nonmetals chapter, arranging the classroom like an exam hall and monitoring students closely while using ICT tools for efficiency. By the last two periods, everything was set for the big event. We combined 9A and 9B in one room, decorated and prepared with multimedia support. I invited our Headmistress, Babychithra teacher, to inaugurate the programme, and all ten of us KUCTE trainees worked in harmony to deliver presentations, videos, and interactive activities. My segment focused on Economic Empowerment, where I explained the concept and encouraged students to prioritise their independence and self-worth. Slides helped keep their attention and made the message more vivid. As the session ended just before 4 p.m., I felt a quiet pride. The day had blended academic tasks, smooth classroom management, and a powerful, meaningful conversation with students—a reminder that teaching is as much about shaping confidence and vision as it is about covering the syllabus.

Day 37 -17/09/2025 - WEDNESDAY

This day turned into one of the busiest of my entire teaching practice. Although my timetable showed only a first-hour class in 9B Physics, I arrived prepared with slides, videos, and extra lesson plans—and it paid off. With many teachers occupied elsewhere, I was given multiple substitutions: 4th and 6th periods in 9A Physics and a 7th-period session in 9B Physics, along with several other responsibilities. The morning began with my planned lesson on the application of impulsive force for 9B. Using pictures and short videos—like a cricket player catching a ball—I helped students see how increasing the time of contact reduces the force on the hand. We worked through textbook problems and discussed how Newton’s first and second laws connect when F = 0 and a = 0. In 9A’s 4th period, I introduced the impulse of force concept itself, guiding them through the equation and an example problem. By the 6th period, we naturally advanced to the application of impulsive force, mirroring the earlier 9B lesson. The day’s final substitution brought fresh energy: Newton’s Third Law of Motion with 9B. Through everyday scenarios like walking on sand versus hard soil, a balloon experiment, and a spring-balance simulation, I led them to understand that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. A playful question about pushing a car from inside the vehicle closed the session on a fun yet thoughtful note. Beyond teaching, I explained Sasthramela rules to several classes, helped conduct the Mathematics Talent Search Exam, and photographed an awareness programme on adolescent education led by Dr. Miriam Jon Francis. By the final bell, I was tired but deeply satisfied—a day that reminded me how adaptable and resourceful a teacher must be, and how rewarding that flexibility can feel.

Days 38 & 39-18/09/2025 and 19/09/2025 – Short Break for KTET

I took a brief pause from my school routine on Days 38 and 39 to focus on the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET). In the days leading up to the exam, I spent long hours revising important concepts, practicing previous question papers, and brushing up on both subject content and pedagogy. The preparation phase itself felt refreshing—it gave me a chance to revisit key teaching principles and reminded me why I chose this profession. On the exam days, the atmosphere was both exciting and slightly tense, but I felt well-prepared and confident. Each paper tested not just knowledge but also time management and presence of mind, and I was happy with the way I could apply what I had studied. Although I missed the usual rhythm of the classroom, this short break proved meaningful, strengthening my determination to become a well-qualified and effective teacher.

As Week 8 comes to a close, I feel energized and more confident in my role as a teacher-in-training. The successful classes, the collaborative school activity, and the rewarding KTET experience all strengthened my belief that dedication and balance can turn every challenge into an opportunity for growth. I’m eager to carry this momentum into the weeks ahead, with a renewed commitment to both my students and my own professional goals.
