PHASE 2 - WEEK 4: MOMENTS OF LEARNING AND CELEBRATION (03/11/2025 TO 07/11/2025)

"Teaching is not just about lessons in the classroom; it’s about the lessons we learn through every experience we live."

The fourth week of my Phase 2 teaching practice at GMGHS Thevally, from November 5th to November 8th, 2025, was a week filled with enthusiasm, responsibility, and moments of pride. The week beautifully blended academics with cultural activities, as the Sub District Kalolsavam and other events added color and energy to the school atmosphere. Alongside these events, I continued my teaching with planned lesson executions, active student engagement, and real-life application-based learning experiences. The week was indeed a journey of learning, reflection, and joy.

Day 14 –03/11/2025-  Monday.

I began the day well-prepared with lesson plans for 8B Chemistry and 9A Physics, along with extra plans for any substitutions. Since the Sub District Kalolsavam had begun, many students were absent, and we were also informed that there would be no afternoon classes due to the Vice President’s visit to Kollam.

Due to the rearrangement of periods, my timetable changed to include 1st hour at 9B, 2nd hour at 9A, 3rd hour at 8B, and 4th hour at 9A. In the first hour at 9B Physics, I introduced Archimedes’ Principle and Principle of Floatation using slides, simulations, and an experiment with a Eureka can. The story of Archimedes captured the students’ attention, and the practical demonstrations helped them connect easily with the concept. The second hour at 9A Physics was carried out similarly, reinforcing the concept effectively.

In the third hour, with 8B Chemistry, I taught Salts and how to identify carbonates and nitrates. Since the lab was unavailable, I used videos of experiments, which fascinated the students and helped them understand the tests conceptually. The fourth hour at 9A Physics was devoted to Relative Density, Hydrometer, and Lactometer, where I connected real-life applications like milk adulteration to make learning meaningful.
Even with the shortened schedule and reduced attendance, the day was fruitful. It showed me that adaptability is key for a teacher—what matters most is using the available time effectively to reinforce and connect concepts.

Day 15 – 04/11/2025- Tuesday

On this day, I had two classes — 9B Physics (1st hour) and 10A Physics (4th hour). In 9B, I continued with Relative Density, Hydrometer, and Lactometer, using videos and hands-on examples to make abstract ideas relatable. Students were curious and enjoyed learning how these instruments work in everyday life.

In 10A Physics, I handled the topics Electric Motor and Moving Coil Loudspeaker as my concerned teacher was absent. With the help of animations and flowcharts, I explained the current flow, working mechanism, and components of these devices. Students showed great interest and were able to connect theoretical knowledge with real-life applications.
Even though I had a period in 8B Chemistry, it didn’t take place due to a Communicative English class. I used the time to assist with Kalolsavam preparations and supervised students’ practice sessions.
This day highlighted how teaching beyond textbooks makes science come alive. I felt more confident integrating visual aids and real-world connections into lessons, which significantly improved student engagement.

Day 16 –05/11/2025-  Wednesday

I had no regular periods on this day as I was assigned as a Pilot Teacher for the Sub District Kalolsavam. I had already adjusted my teaching schedule earlier to accommodate this duty. In the morning, I supervised students’ practice sessions and received participation cards and travel allowances.
By 1:00 pm, along with two of my co-trainees and eight students participating in the Skit, we left for Krist Raj School, where I coordinated with Shameera Miss, the official pilot teacher. Though the events were delayed, we kept the students engaged and motivated. The skit, initially scheduled for 3:30 pm, was postponed to 8:30 pm. After handing over the duty by evening, we left, eagerly waiting for the results. Later that night, we received the joyful news — our students won First Prize with A Grade in the Skit competition!
The experience was truly heartwarming. Watching our students perform with such passion made me realize that teaching is not confined to classrooms—it extends to guiding, motivating, and celebrating students’ achievements.

Day 17 – 06/11/2025 - Thursday

I was fully prepared with materials and lesson plans for 9B Physics and 8B Chemistry. In 9B, I conducted a Let Us Assess session, where students solved conceptual and application-level problems from the chapter. This not only reinforced their understanding but also revealed areas where they needed clarification, which I addressed immediately.
In 8B Chemistry, I taught the Identification of Chloride and Sulphate Salts. Real demonstrations of the experiments sparked students’ curiosity and helped them easily grasp the reactions. I later consolidated all salt identification tests into a single comparison table, which simplified their revision process.
The satisfaction of seeing students apply learned concepts and perform confidently reaffirmed my belief in activity-based teaching. It was a productive day of consolidation and meaningful learning.

Day 18 – 07/11/2025- Friday

I had no scheduled periods on this day but came fully prepared with lesson plans and extra materials. During the morning assembly, our headmistress announced that the school had secured 5th position in the Sub District Kalolsavam, congratulating all participants and us trainees for our efforts in coordination.
I spent the remaining day effectively—checking notebooks, writing reflective journals, preparing slides, and framing diagnostic and achievement test papers. I also assisted my co-trainees in their lab preparations and demonstrations. In the afternoon I got the library and pt duty of 8B for 5th and 6th hours which was also done perfectly.
It was a calm yet productive day dedicated to self-reflection and preparation. The announcement of our school’s success brought a sense of pride and fulfillment, reminding me how every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

Week 4 of my Phase 2 teaching practice was a beautiful blend of academic learning and cultural celebration. Managing classes amid Kalolsavam duties and special events taught me adaptability, time management, and teamwork. I gained satisfaction not only from delivering lessons effectively but also from witnessing my students shine beyond academics. As the week concluded, I carried with me memories of joy, growth, and gratitude — the essence of a teacher’s journey.
