Week 6 Teaching Practice Blog – Phase 2"Learning Deepens When Passion Meets Purpose" (17/11/25 to 21/11/ 25)

"Teaching is not just about delivering content; it is about shaping understanding, one meaningful moment at a time."

Week 6 of my Phase 2 teaching practice at GMGHS Thevally was one of the most eventful and fulfilling weeks of this internship. This week combined observation classes, active teaching, practical demonstrations, achievement tests, coordination duties, and continuous reflections. Each day unfolded with new learning, deeper connections with students, and opportunities to refine my teaching identity. From managing experiments to conducting assessments and supporting school programmes, the week brought a beautiful blend of responsibilities that strengthened my confidence as a budding teacher.

 Day 24 – 17/11/25 - Monday.
On Day 24, I had two regular periods—8B Chemistry and 9A Physics—and I was fully prepared with lesson plans, slides, and activity materials. Early in the morning, I was informed that my optional teacher, Saija miss, would be observing my class. Thus, my 8B pH lesson was shifted to the 2nd hour. Before the class, I arranged all materials in the lab—pH papers, solutions, samples, slides—and ensured everything was ready.
The class progressed beautifully with hands-on activities, pH identification, tabulation, real-life connections like soil pH, and interactive discussions. Saija miss appreciated my approach and provided valuable feedback on refining board work and questioning style. These insights greatly contributed to my professional growth.
In the afternoon, I helped in serving the midday meal and coordinated the Sasthradinam student seminars in their respective classes. During the 7th hour, I taught “Work Against Gravity” at 9A physics. The students smoothly connected the concept with prior knowledge, and through problem-solving, they understood path independence clearly.
This day strengthened my confidence in activity-based teaching. The appreciation and feedback from Saija miss helped me recognise where I am improving and where I still need polishing.

Day 25 -18/11/2025 - Tuesday

Day 25 began with a substitution at 8B for the 3rd hour, and I had already prepared the lesson plan for “Hard Water and Soft Water.” I introduced the topic by discussing the importance of water, its role in life, and water conservation. Through a small activity involving solubility and litmus checking, students explored water as a universal solvent. Later, videos and flowcharts helped them understand the difference between hard and soft water clearly.
In the afternoon, I served the midday meal and revised the Acids, Bases, and Salts chapter for students who had missed portions due to Kalolsavam. During the 6th hour, I handled an extra lesson plan on cohesive forces, adhesive forces, and surface tension. Using demonstrations like the blade floating, colocasia leaf structure, soap film and ring experiment, and capillarity with glass rods, I made the concepts lively and concrete for them. This was also my final lesson plan in 8B for this phase.
Hands-on activities truly engaged the students, especially in the afternoon session. Their enthusiasm in performing experiments reassured me that experiential learning has the highest impact.

 Day 26 –  19/11/25 - Wednesday

Day 26 started with my 1st-hour class in 9B where I continued “Work Done Against Gravity.” Students followed well as they already understood the basics, and I made them solve problems independently to strengthen their mathematical confidence.
In the 2nd hour, I helped my co-trainee conduct a diagnostic test. Afternoon duties included serving the midday meals and coordinating the remaining Sasthradinam seminars. Later, I arranged the 9B classroom for a career guidance session organised by the Rotary Club. In the final hour, I assisted my co-trainee in collecting project data from 8B students.
This day helped me appreciate the balance between teaching and school responsibilities. It showed me that a teacher’s role goes far beyond classroom transactions.

 Day 27 – 20/11/25 - Thursday

Day 27 marked a small milestone—my 30th lesson plan of this teaching practice and also the final one for 9B Physics. I taught the topic “Negative Work,” using slides and relatable examples from daily life. Students actively participated, distinguishing between positive and negative work through various situations I presented. I concluded the class with real-life connections and asked students to prepare thoroughly for the achievement test scheduled for the next day.The rest of the day was spent in checking notebooks, arranging lab materials, updating reflective journals, and doing record work.
Completing my last lesson plan for 9B made me emotional and grateful. Seeing the students understand and apply concepts so well made all my efforts feel meaningful.

Day 28 - 21/11/25 - Friday
On Day 28, I conducted the Achievement Test in 9B Physics (chapter: Gravitation). The exam time was rescheduled to the 1st hour, and I arranged the classroom like a real exam hall. English medium students wrote using the ICT-presented paper, while Malayalam medium students were given handwritten copies. Observing the test, I noticed that many struggled with English question wording and mathematical operations.
From the second hour onwards, I checked the answer papers, tabulated marks, prepared statistical analysis, and worked on the Achievement Test Report. I also identified learning difficulties—mainly universal law of gravitation and circular motion—and prepared the diagnostic test.
In the afternoon, I served the midday meal, distributed the achievement test papers, and informed students about the diagnostic test to be held on Monday.
The achievement test gave me deeper insights into students’ learning gaps. It reminded me that assessments are powerful tools—not to judge students, but to guide them forward.

Week 6 was a deeply fulfilling chapter of my teaching practice journey. I completed my lesson plans, handled substitutions, conducted tests, coordinated programmes, supported students who needed revision, and engaged meaningfully with my mentor teachers. I also received valuable feedback, polished my teaching strategies, and explored the importance of hands-on learning. This week reminded me that teaching is a blend of preparation, flexibility, compassion, and continuous self-improvement.
